Roman Aqueduct Flow Estimation Using Geomatic Measurement

چکیده
The aqueducts built by the ancient Romans are among most impressive evidence of their engineering skills. water inside was transported for kilometers, exploiting only slight but constant differences in altitude throughout route. To keep height constant, could proceed underground or aboveground on well-known arched structures that supported lead, ceramic stone pipes. In order to reconstruct characteristics these structures, it is necessary carry out an accurate survey orthometric heights, and therefore suitable technology geometric levelling. this case, however, not applicable, here we propose alternative methodology. final goal work estimate flow some sectors preserved area south city Rome. This has two main purposes: first rate historical studies; second check how much heights have changed over centuries, movements from a geophysical geodynamic point view. latter analysis will be developed following phase research. For purpose, high-precision geomatic carried under study, partly retracing already 1917 whose purpose methodologies known. been affected gradual subsidence including since 1917. observed sections showed average inclinations, slightly lower than 2 per thousand reported literature similar aqueducts. measurements allowed specific estimated more accurately, both as they were originally presence deposits accumulated during years use reconstruction initial geometry later used reference deformations deformed themselves.

Measurement of Cerebrospinal Fluid Flow in the Aqueduct of a Rat Model of Hydrocephalus
We present the first demonstration of cardiac-gated MRI measurements of pulsatile cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow in both control rats and in a new rat model of communicating hydrocephalus (HC). Such measurements are extremely valuable as a non-invasive tool for monitoring functional changes in intracranial dynamics over the course of the development and progression of HC. Images were taken usin...
متن کاملCrime Scene Reconstruction Using a Fully Geomatic Approach
This paper is focused on two main topics: crime scene reconstruction, based on a geomatic approach, and crime scene analysis, through GIS based procedures. According to the experience of the authors in performing forensic analysis for real cases, the aforesaid topics will be examined with the specific goal of verifying the relationship of human walk paths at a crime scene with blood patterns on...
متن کاملGeomatic Engineering in Humanitarian Demining
One of the most notable problem with the strongest impact on the civilian population during the war and specially after the war is the landmine problem. This paper describes Mine Information System (MIS) for Humanitarian Demining with the all necessary data and the way of bringing it together. Before the MIS implemented a lot of preparatory works has been done: marking of photogrammetric contro...
متن کاملCSF Flow Quantification of the Cerebral Aqueduct in Normal Volunteers Using Phase Contrast Cine MR Imaging
OBJECTIVE To evaluate whether the results of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow quantification differ according to the anatomical location of the cerebral aqueduct that is used and the background baseline region that is selected. MATERIALS AND METHODS The CSF hydrodynamics of eleven healthy volunteers (mean age = 29.6 years) were investigated on a 1.5 T MRI system. Velocity maps were acquired per...
متن کاملParameter Estimation of Flow-Measurement in Digital Angiography
The purpose of angiographic procedures used in cardiovascular interventions is to classify the patient’s potential of regeneration after strokes caused by dead blood cells in the main arteria. The flow of blood into heart’s capillaries is measured using x-ray radiometry with contrastive fluids. Our task was to fit a 5-parameter Gamma function to the intensity samples extracted from the x-ray an...
